Development and Implementation of Lithuanian Integral Museum Information System (LIMIS) in Lithuanian Museums

The aim of this project is to create and subsequently to implement the Lithuanian Integral Museum Information System (LIMIS) in country’s national and republic museums. It will integrate Lithuanian museums’ databases into a common information system and ensure the maintenance and development of the LIMIS electronic catalogue. It will also provide means for digitisation of museums valuables and for development of full-text databases, and ensure the search tools for seeking information about Lithuanian museums’ holdings. Public Europeana event in Brussels

On the evening of the 9th May 2012, the European Commission and Europeana together with the Danish Presidency organised an event for Ministers from the Education, Youth and Culture (EYC) Council, senior leaders of European memory organisations and leading figures in the creative industries. The aim of the event was to raise awareness of Europeana among citizens and to demonstrate that online cultural heritage is a driver for growth. Ministers from all EU countries have selected their top treasures to be unveiled in Brussels on 9th May. Virtual exhibition „Treasures of Lithuanian Museums”

The exhibition „Treasures of Lithuanian Museums” http://www.muziejai.lt/lobiai/ is a present for those who are interested in, study and promote valuables stored in Lithuanian museums.
The exhibition is part of the programme Museum Year in Lithuania. All country’s museums participate in the project and provide data for the virtual exhibition. Each of them has an opportunity to present from 5 to 15 exhibits from its collections.

10–17 August 2013 – ICOM’s 23rd General Conference

ICOM’s 23rd General Conference will be held from 10 to 17 August, 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Participants will debate around the theme Museums (memory + creativity) = social change.

“EuropeanaPhotography” Content Seminar

The second seminar of the “EuropeanaPhotography” project dedicated to the selection of content took place in Leuven, Belgium, on the 12–13th April. The seminar was organized by the Catholic University of Leuven, the leader of the Themes, Collections and Content work package WP2. Representatives of the majority of project partners gathered to present their photography collections and objects of the 1839–1939 period that are to be digitised along with the themes of vintage photos. Lithuanian Museums are working for digitisation and for sharing their collections to Europe

Lithuanian museums caught the digitisation train rather late comparing with the rest of Europe. Therefore now they try hard to come up with it and present Europe’s audience with digital images of their collections. The coordinator of museums digitisation activities is the Lithuanian Museums’ Centre for Information, Digitisation and LIMIS (LM CID LIMIS) established as a separate department at the Lithuanian Art Museum in 2009.
